2025 Conference Theme

The Future of Sentencing Commissions

Over the past several years members of the National Association of Sentencing Commissions have gathered to reflect on past successes, challenges, and lessons learned. NASC has examined numerous evidence-based sentencing policies, evaluated longstanding Guidelines systems, and explored the disparate impact existing sentencing structures may have on minority populations. An increasing number of jurisdictions are collecting robust sentencing data and leveraging this information to promote data-driven research and legislation. As the criminal justice landscape continues to evolve, commissions (by any name) will be challenged to prioritize the collection and analysis of comprehensive sentencing data to inform decision-making, promote public safety, ensure equitable outcomes, and increase transparency. The 2025 NASC conference will provide members with the opportunity to discuss the future and the best way to advance state goals.
